Head of Data

  • On-site, Hybrid
    • Brussels, Belgium

Job description

At GeoPostcodes, a fast-growing Belgian tech company, we are looking for a seasoned Head of Data to lead our data team. This team is the heart of our company, ensuring the delivery of high-quality geodata. Customers like Pinterest, Amazon, IBM, DHL and other Fortune 500 companies trust us to keep their data accurate and up to date — and we trust you to make that happen.

You’ll lead a team of GIS specialists, working alongside our CTO and Data Architect to ensure reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of our data. You will manage delivery timelines, quality, and risk of our product updates, while building an environment where the team can thrive.

Your Mission

  • Lead and coach a 10-person technical team, including GIS experts and data engineers

  • Maintain clear quality standards and ensure structured and risk-aware delivery practices

  • Plan and deliver regular data updates on time

  • Oversee team meetings, project plans and delivery tracking, ensuring internal deadlines are met

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, performance evaluation, and coaching for the data team

  • Run daily standups, backlog grooming, 1:1s, and continuous improvement meetings

  • Partner with the CTO and Data Architect on long-term improvements to our data technology stack and QA processes

  • Represent the data team in weekly management meetings and product steering committees

We Offer

  • A company where transparency, accountability, and collaboration are core values

  • The chance to lead one of the most critical teams at GeoPostcodes

  • A great bunch of international, open-minded colleagues who want to achieve results together.

  • A competitive remuneration package, including a yearly bonus, meal vouchers, and more

  • A hybrid work setup with access to a funky co-working space (MeetDistrict Madou) in the heart of Brussels, just a 15-minute walk from Central Station

Job requirements

  • 10+ years total experience, including 5+ years managing technical teams

  • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • A strong understanding of software development and QA methodologies

  • Proven people leadership: you coach, develop, and nurture talent

  • Pragmatism, ownership, and a strong drive to deliver value

Bonus points if you have

  • Familiarity with tools and tech like SQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS/QGIS, Python, Bash, and ETL pipelines

  • Certifications in project or delivery management (e.g., PMP, Prince2, Agile)

  • Experience with corporate IT principles like MDM, ERPs, APIs, or large-scale QA frameworks
